Re-Registration of the Asset of Community Value listing

In May, Cublington Parish Council made an application to Buckinghamshire Council that the registration of The Unicorn Pub as an Asset of Community Value be renewed. The Friends of the Unicorn Cublington working group contacted the various clubs, societies and interest groups in Cublington asking for information about how, prior to its closure, they had used the Unicorn for their meetings and social events and activities. This information was sent to Buckinghamshire Council in support of the application. A decision is awaited.

Our local MP, Laura Kyrke-Smith sent an email in support of the re-registration of the Asset of Com

From: KYRKE-SMITH, Laura (MP)

Dear Ms Surman,

I am writing in support of the application to list The Unicorn public house in Cublington as an Asset of Community Value.

Having engaged with residents and community representatives, I am in no doubt that The Unicorn has played a significant role in promoting the social wellbeing and social interests of the local community. Its importance extends far beyond its function as a public house. For many years it served as a vital community hub, bringing together residents and providing a meeting place for a wide range of organisations, clubs and activities that contribute to the social fabric of village life.

The breadth of community use is considerable, with organisations such as Cublington Cricket Club, Cublington Tennis Club, the Brisk Walkers group, the North Field project, the village Book Club, the Fete Committee, the Variety Show, the allotment society and the annual Art Exhibition and Horticultural Show all making use of the venue. Other local organisations, including Young Farmers, the Rotary Club and a local beagle group, also regularly used its facilities.

I am also aware of the strong and ongoing efforts made by residents and prospective operators to secure the future of The Unicorn as a viable pub and community asset. This demonstrates both the value placed on the venue by local people and the realistic prospect that it could continue to serve the community in the future.

Given its long-standing contribution to village life and the clear level of community support for its continued use, I believe The Unicorn meets the criteria for designation as an Asset of Community Value and I strongly support this application.

Kind regards,

Laura Kyrke-Smith
