Dear Unicorn Pledgers

We are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to allow a small investment team led by Andrew and Tom from the Five Elms, to purchase the freehold of the Unicorn. Chris George, the present owner, clarified his original overage clause to confirm that it would only apply should the pub seek change of use to residential, as a sign of his commitment and that of his family, to ensure the village has a pub at its centre for many years to come. Andrew and Tom and the investment team are in complete agreement with this condition, as its sole intention is to build back a successful pub for the community to enjoy. The investment team will be seeking EIS relief, so this process along with formal contracts, surveys etc, could take some time. Everyone will be working to ensure this is completed as soon as possible, but realistically the pub will probably not open until the end of the summer/early autumn.

May we also take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the last 18 months or so. The pledges will now not be required but they were generous, as were the offers of assistance and the combined pressure that we've applied to the present owners, has undoubtedly kept a focus on getting the pub back open again.

It's been a long and strenuous journey, but fingers crossed, we are going to get there soon.
